Today was school reopening day as some pupils in ‘critical year groups‘ returned to the classroom.
‘Early years students’ were deemed most critical and resume education from today. Some secondary school pupils will also return to the classroom during June as the threat of coronavirus declines.
EDLounge also chose today to return staff to their headquarters following a time working from home. This means we are well equipped to help you with your transition back to school life.
Here is an update from a busy day in education.
Who is school reopening for and when are other year groups going back?
School closures have been the norm since 20 March and only vulnerable children and children of key workers have been expected to attend.
Pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 returned today as Covid-19 measures were relaxed across the country.
By being away from education, children are missing valuable lessons which could hinder their potential long-term.
The move to gradually reopen means these children can catch up on missed lessons as well as aid parents who are expected to return to work.
Some secondary schools will also be returning in June.
Secondary school expectations from 15 June
According to Government guidelines, secondary schools can offer face-to-face support for a quarter of Year 10 and Year 12 at any one time. They are also required to meet the following expectations:
- Continue providing full-time provision for vulnerable pupils in all year groups (including Year 10 and Year 12)
- Continue providing full-time provision for children of critical workers in all year groups (including Year 10 and Year 12)
- Provide some face-to-face support to supplement the remote education of Year 10 and Year 12 pupils, with a clear expectation that remote education will continue to be the predominant form of education delivery for these year groups and this should be of high quality
- Continue to use best endeavours to support all other pupils remaining at home, making use of the available remote education support and ensuring a high quality offer

EDLounge Group return to the office
EDLounge were well prepared for the lockdown on 23 March, with laptops being distributed to staff in the days prior to the announcement.
But like many we were keen to return to work when safe to do so.
Social distancing has been an essential priority, with limited staff working tirelessly to create a new office layout to ensure 2 metre distancing can always be observed. Lines have been drawn throughout the office so that individuals maintain distance, while we also understand the concern of staff who wish to remain working from home.
All staff have their temperature tested daily so to spot symptoms before they develop.
